Welcome to Ohio History Day!

The 2022 Region 6 Contest will be held VIRTUALLY.

Thank you for your interest in judging at the Region 6 Ohio History Day contest. This contest takes place on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus (1 Capitol Square, Columbus, OH 43215). This regional contest serves students in Delaware, Fairfield, Fayette, Franklin, Knox, Licking, Madison, Perry, Pickaway, and Union counties.

The question we are most frequently asked about History Day judging is: do I have to be an “expert” to judge?  The answer is NO!  If you like history and you consider yourself a critical thinker or an avid reader/writer, then you are qualified to be a History Day judge.

A good history day judge also:

  • Likes talking to kids
  • Asks open-ended questions
  • Gives constructive feedback
  • Remains objective while assessing subject matter
  • Works in teams to find consensus

Your Materials

  • Your judge materials, including project entries, digital evaluation sheets, schedule, virtual judge instructions, and more, will be emailed to you no later than seven (7) days prior to the Region 6 Contest, scheduled for March 12th, 2022.

Required Judge Orientation

  • Prior to the contest, all judges will receive a brief pre-orientation video that should be watched prior to the contest on March 12th. The morning of the contest, all judges are required to virtually convene for a training of the NEW NHD Rule Book & Evaluations - a schedule of the day will be sent closer to the contest.

Please note that the Rule Book and Evaluation Sheets have been updated. See below:
